Coco peat
Coco peat or Coir Dust is the dust created through the process of extracting coir fiber from coconut husk.
Few years back coir dust (the dust created through the process of extracting fiber from the coconut husk) used to be totally neglected. This had been stored in open grounds in the form of giant piles. Now, a value addition through a simple process of compressing, this material has become a major export in the form of coco peat which serves as a substitute for Peat Moss which is now band as an act of environment protection.
Coir dust represents about 45% of the coconut husk and it was formerly used only for agricultural purposes, especially in Pineapple and coconut plantations as an agent for mulching. Coir dust can absorb over 8 times its weight of water and this property can be used in agricultural fields as a potting media or as Briquettes , wallboards, light weight polymers and composites.
Coir based products could find a ready market in horticultural production, landscaping and garden construction. This product is ideal for:
| a) Bedding Plants |
b) Potted Plants |
| c) Green house crops |
d) Plant Production |
| e) New lawns |
